April 9, 2010, Newsletter Issue #25: Acupuncture Keeps Me Sane

Tip of the Week

By my second treatment, I was diagnosed with spleen chi heart blood xu. I had no idea what that meant.
I came to understand that from a Chinese medical standpoint, my body is cold inside and unable to regenerate and process my blood properly (xu means deficiency in Chinese). My condition is not a disease or something I was born with, it’s just my body’s reaction to stress. I may be a perfectionist and a little obsessive about my work, but up until a year ago it has never caused panic attacks before.
Everyone has moments in life that are stressful and while some stress is good, a continuous or increased amount can lead to negative physical, emotional and biological effects. In my case I experienced a faint chest pain, which began to get worse and often times lasted all day and night. This is when I decided it was time to seek help.
Ever since this my first visit, I started receiving acupuncture treatments every two weeks. I've noticed that my stress is managed better, and I also rarely catch colds. It has changed my life, and I don't know what I would do without it.
